The 600

May 17, 2008 / by bavolet

Yep, there it was.  Right there on my computer screen.  A deposit into my checking account of $600.00.

Because of the last two digits of my social security number I was scheduled to receive my rebate no later than the end of the banking day on May 16th.  The last day for the electronic deposits.  Lucky me.

I'm not spending my $600.  At least not immediately.  I know that's not what I'm supposed to do.  George, and Nancy and all the others who hammered this out wanted me to rush down to my local retail store and spend it on something.  Anything.

Sorry guys.  Mine is going into my savings account (why is it they think we should save more then give us money to spend?).  It will be spent eventually, but only after I've saved a bit more and have some other bills paid off.  Then, hopefully before the end of the year, I'll use it and the other money I've saved to make a decent down payment toward a new car.

Funny thing is, I'm not going to buy an American made car.  So sue me.  I'm going to buy a car with better gas mileage and a better safety rating.  I'm also going to buy a car that gives me all that and more for less money.  I'm going to buy a grown-up car that's slightly bigger than the small things I've driven for thirty years.  Hey, I'm 52 with a bad knee - I would like something comfortable to drive before I die.

Now, if they want to send me another $400.00 I'll spend it immediately!  I've been dying to buy a Kindle reader from Amazon!

I plan on spending mine on Chinese made stuff at Wal- Mart.

That way I stimulate two economies- The Chinese economy and the economy of Wal- Mart.

Me- I get $600 bucks worth of "stuff." (Minus the applicable taxes required for purchase, there in.)

Good to see you in the blog world again..!!

Thanks - yes, the past two or three weeks has been interesting.  I just didn't have time to even look at blogster, much less comment or post.  We're halfway through our short May term and on our 10 hour/4 day work week, so until the middle of August I work 4 days and am off 3.  Ah, I love summer!  :-)

Well, enjoy your "stuff" - if it wasn't for really needing to get a new car I'd probably do the same thing!
